This fresh apple pie recipe has corn flakes on the bottom of the fruit for a great flavor and added texture.
 

Ingredients

  • Crust:
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3 cups flour
  • Apple Pie:
  • Handful crushed corn flakes
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 12-15 apples, peeled and sliced
  • 2-3 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup sugar

Method

Crust: In a bowl, add shortening and egg then mix well. Slowly add vinegar, salt, water and flour. Roll to desired thickness and place in pie dish. Pie: Crush the corn flakes onto the pie crust. Mix together sliced apples, flour, cinnamon and sugar. Place apple mixture on top of corn flakes. Roll out a top crust, then lay over apples. Pinch sides together to seal. Cut holes in top of pie to allow steam to vent. With a pastry brush, spread milk on top of crust, then coat with a layer of sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
