Sweetened Condensed Milk

If you don't have a can of sweetened condensed milk on hand, you can make your own, using sugar, butter and nonfat dry milk powder.
 

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup butter, cut up
  • 1 1/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder
 
Method

Combine sugar, water, and butter in a saucepan. Bring to boil and cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Cool slightly. Combine with dry milk powder, mixing till smooth. Cover and refrigerate till needed.

 

Notes: You can use this recipe for recipes that call for sweetened condence milk. Margret Pointon

 

Number of Servings: Makes 1 1/3 cups -- to equal one 14 oz. can
