Swedish Apple Pie

This top-crust "pie" is made in a square pan. Sliced cooking apples are sprinkled with a little sugar and cinnamon, then topped with a mixture of melted butter, sugar, flour, egg and nuts before baking.
 

Ingredients

  • Granny Smith or other cooking apples
  • About 2 Tbsp. sugar*
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2/3 Cup melted butter/margarine
  • 1 Cup sugar
  • 1 Cup flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 to 1/2 Cup chopped walnuts
  • *Amount of sugar depends on tartness of apples.

Method

Fill a 9x9-inch pan 2/3 full with sliced apples. Combine and sprinkle the 2 tbsp. sugar & the cinnamon over apples. Heat butter or margarine in sauce pan over low heat till melted. Remove from heat & stir in 1 cup sugar, flour, egg & nuts. Spoon over apple mixture and bake about 1 hour at 350 degrees or until golden brown.

 

Notes: Super easy, delicious & quick.
