Skillet Toffee by Dot

Cook sugar, butter, and corn syrup together, then stir in nuts and top with chocolate in this toffee version.
 

Ingredients

  • 1 c sugar
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 3 T water
  • 1 T light corn syrup
  • 5 oz. sliced almonds
  • 8 oz. semi sweet bits

Method

Grease a baking sheet. In skillet, combine sugar, butter, water and corn syrup. Cook mixture over moderate heat and stir in one direction only until sugar dissolves. Increase heat to high and cook mixture for 6 minutes or more until it darkens. Stir in nuts and when deep caramel color, pour onto baking sheet. Spread semi sweet bits on top. Freeze for 1 hour and break into bits.

 

Notes: Store this frozen for best results!
