Pineapple Surprise

This cake is mixed in the pan as it cooks, so it's ultra-easy.
Ingredients
- 28 ounces crushed pineapple
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 2 sticks unsalted butter
- 2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts (optional)
- 2 tubs of Cool Whip (8 oz. ea.)
- Fruit or Candy of choice to top

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Spread crushed pineapple evenly on bottom of a 13x9 inch baking pan (do not omit the juice). Now take the cake mix and crumble it over the pineapple, making sure to spread it out evenly. Cut butter into approx. 1/4 inch pats, and distribute over the entire surface of cake mix. Again do this very evenly. Next step is optional, spread a layer of the chopped walnuts. Bake this uncovered for 40-50 minutes until cake is golden brown and bubbling. Cool for approx. 1 hour. Spread Cool Whip over top right before serving. Decorate with topping of choice.
Notes: Do your topping according to the event, ie. Fourth of July - use blueberries and strawberries to create a flag design, Christmas - use mint leaves and cranberries for nice Christmas colors!
