Mahalo means 'thank you' in Hawaiian-and your family will certainly thank you for this rich, chocolate pie with macadamia nuts and coconut.
Crust;
In a large bowl, combine flour, butter, sugar, egg, vanilla and salt. Beat until mixture is well combined and crumbly.
Stir in macadamia nuts.
Press mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9 inch tart pan with a removable bottom.
Chill for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Bake crust in the middle of the oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven and cool.
Filling;
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl, whisk together corn syrup, brown sugar and eggs until smooth.
Stir in butter.
In pie crust, add nuts, coconut and chocolate chips; pour syrup mixture over the top (as it bakes the coconut and nuts float to the top, and the chips float to a layer under that).
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let pie cool completely before cutting--serve with whipped cream.
