Mahogany Cake


Sour cream gives this chocolate cake a rich, moist texture and wonderful flavor.



Ingredients:

  • 3 squares semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 2/3 cup flour
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2/3 cup margarine
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla

Method

Mix chocolate and water, stir until smooth and add sour cream. Mix flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda together and set aside. Cream margarine, add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add eggs 1 at a time and beat after each. Add flour and chocolate mixture, alternately beating well after each. Stir in vanilla and pour into greased and floured pan. Use two 9 inch round pans or 9x13. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minute. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove from pan and frost with chocolate frosting.
