Heavenly Berry-Cake Sundae

Angel food cake slices are topped with frozen yogurt & berries, then drizzled with a syrup of brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, cinnamon & lemon peel.
 

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
  • 2 cups mixed berries (such as strawberries, blackberries, raspberries & blueberries)
  • 4 slices angel food cake
  • 1 pint fat-free vanilla frozen yogurt

Method

Bring balsamic vinegar, sugar, and cinnamon to a boil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until reduced by half. Stir in lemon zest. Place one slice of cake on plate, top with 1/2 cup frozen yogurt, 1/2 cup berries, and drizzle with one-fourth of the balsamic sauce.

 

Notes: When you top ordinary angel food cake and frozen yogurt with any combination of your favorite berries and then add this lemon scented balsamic cinnamon sauce - well, you've got a really special dessert! No one will believe it is so good and was so easy.
