Grilled Strawberries and Balsamic Syrup

Grilling brings out the sweetness in fresh strawberries--serve with ice cream and a syrup of balsamic vinegar, honey and black pepper for an upscale dessert.
 

Ingredients

  • 1 pint large fresh strawberries
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Vanilla ice cream

Method

Core strawberries, cut in half and toss with brown sugar and cinnamon. Place on a medium high heat grill for 3 minutes on each side, turning once. Place on bamboo skewers if strawberries are small. While grilling, place a small saucepan on grill with vinegar, honey and black pepper. Cook until reduced to a thick syrup. Chop strawberries and place on top of a scoop of ice cream. Drizzle balsamic syrup, either warm or chilled, over top and serve.

 

Notes: Soak skewers in water for 30 minutes prior to grilling to prevent charring.
