Grandma's Flan

Your guests will love this cream flan in a golden caramel sauce.
 

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
 
Method

In skillet over very low heat, cook 6 tbsp of sugar and the water. Cook until sugar turns to golden syrup; stir to prevent burning. Pour into 4 custard cups and cool until firm. Beat milk, egg yolks, vanilla and 2 tbsp sugar until throughly blended. Pour over caramel in custard cups. Pour 1/2 inch boiling water in deep pan. Place custard cups in water. Bake at 325 degrees for about 1 hour and 15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Chill well. To plate, run a knife around the inside of the custard cups and invert on to a plate-the caramel sauce will run out over the flan.
