This unique dessert uses farina and coconut in the base. A citrus syrup is poured over the baked mixture.
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
Pre-make syrup: Mix sugar and water in a saucepan; bring to a boil, add lemon juice, let simmer, uncovered, for approximately 15 minutes until syrup is runny but sticks between fingers. Cool.
Mix all other ingredients in a mixing bowl and pour into a 15x10x1 buttered baking pan. Press down on the mixture to evenly spread the mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees in the middle rack of the oven until golden brown (approximately 30 minutes).
Add cooled syrup to hot dessert, let cool for 15 minutes then cut into even squares. Garnish with almonds or serve warm with ice-cream & enjoy.
Notes:
1. Substitute Cream of Wheat(R) if unable to find Farina flour.
2. Syrup should be pre-made and cool before pouring it, this allows the dessert to absorb an efficient amount of syrup.
3. Garnishing with toasted almonds (one per piece inserted in the square) enhances taste and appearance.
