Double Hot Caramapple Ice Cream Topping

Habanero peppers really bring the heat to this ice cream topping. The heat is balanced by the sweetness of the caramel and the crunchy tang of the apple.
 

Ingredients

  • 1 heaping tbsp finely diced, seeded and deveined habanero pepper, use gloves when handling
  • 1/2 cup finely diced fresh apple
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped fresh apple

Method

Melt butter over low heat. Add apples and peppers to melted butter. Cook and mash 3-5 minutes. Add brown sugar and stir constantly until melted. Add vanilla and cream then cook, stirring constantly, until the consistency is like caramel. Add chopped raw apples to hot caramel. Serve hot over vanilla or any flavor ice cream.
