A fresh, frozen dessert reminiscent of a fruit slushy.
Wash fruit and cut pears into pieces. Place in a sauce pan with a cup of water. Cook over low heat until pears are falling apart. Stir in sugar or sugar substitute until dissolved. Cool completely. Put mixture through a food mill to remove plup, seeds and peel. Transfer mixture to shallow freezer container. Cover with plastic wrap and place in freezer. After approximately 45 minutes, remove container from freezer. With fork, "rake" the frozen slush to break up ice crystals. Cover, freeze and repeat until mixture is consistency of shaved ice.
Notes:
Before serving, remove granita from freezer, and rake once more before spooning into dessert dishes. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
