Method
Make a paste of the first 5 ingredients. Roll out pastry 1/8" thick; cut into 8 6" squares. Place an apple in the center of each; put jelly in cavity and spread spicy paste over each apple. Moisten edges of each pastry shell and bring points together over apples. Seal sides firmly. Roll leftover dough, cut into streamers and lay across tops of dumplings. Place in greased baking dish, about 11"x15". Bake in 350* oven for 30 minutes. While apples are baking, make a syrup of the water, sugar and fruit juice; Simmer to dissolve sugar. Pour over apples, bake 10-20 minutes more, basting with syrup frequently, to give attractive glaze. A little food color may be added to syrup. Serve warm with cream (optional)
