Amy's Bread Pudding

The ultimate comfort food--a bread pudding with cinnamon, raisins and a hint of vanilla.
 

Ingredients

  • 10 slices white bread, cubed
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup raisins, optional
  • 6 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups scalded milk, cooled

Method

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly butter one 2 quart baking dish. Combine bread cubes, butter, cinnamon, and raisins and mix well. Make sure all bread is lightly covered with cinnamon and place in baking dish. Beat together eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Add milk, mix well, and pour over bread cubes. Sprinkle additional cinnamon on top and bake for 25 minutes.

 

Notes: Bread pudding is a great way to use up bread that has gone stale.
