4-layer Dessert

This multi-layered dessert dates back many years. It's popular and easy to make with its layers of instant chocolate pudding, cream cheese & Cool Whip.

  • Servings: 15 large pieces


1 stick (1/2 Cup) Butter or Margarine, softened
1 cup Flour
1 cup Powdered Sugar
Large Tub Cool Whip, thawed
8 oz pkg Cream Cheese, softened
2 Small Pkg Jello Instant Chocolate Pudding
2¼ cups Milk
1 tsp Vanilla
3 Heath Bars, frozen & crushed


1st Layer:

Combine softened butter or margarine with flour; mix with hands and press into a 13x9" pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes, until crust is golden; cool.

2nd Layer:

Mix softened cream cheese, powdered sugar and 1 cup of the Cool Whip with a mixer; spread onto 1st layer.

3rd Layer:

Mix pudding, milk, and vanilla with mixer about 1 minute at low speed, until thickened; carefully spread over second layer.

4th Layer:

Spread remainder of Cool Whip on third layer; top with crushed bits of Heath Bar.

Cover and chill.

Helpful Tips:

I don't always use the entire container of Cool Whip; just use your judgement as to how thick of a layer you like on top.
